Material removed. No blasting until after August 20th.

This week, the contractor will demolish the parking lot deck on the Fannborg plot, remove the demolished material, and prepare the site for earthworks. This involves trucks transporting sorted material for disposal, such as iron, concrete, and similar items. Consequently, an increase in truck traffic can be expected across the bridge at Digranesvegur 1 and down onto Hafnarfjarðarvegur.

Once that work is completed, earthworks will begin. The Municipality of Kópavogur has not yet issued a permit for the earthworks, but once that permit is received, work will start on removing soil from the bedrock. This work, which is expected to begin in early August, will also involve truck traffic over the bridge and down onto Hafnarfjarðarvegur.

No blasting will take place until after August 20th. As stated at the residents' meeting held at the end of June, blasting is expected to occur four to six times a day, and a horn will be sounded for one minute before each blast. Vibration monitors will be installed on the nearest buildings, and the measurement results will be submitted to the Municipality of Kópavogur. The maximum allowable peak particle velocity is 15 mm/sec with a frequency of 10 Hz. Blasting will only take place between 8:00 and 18:00 on weekdays, with the possibility of occasional work on Saturdays.

This phase of the earthworks and blasting is expected to last until November.

The second phase of earthworks and blasting on the Fannborg plot will not begin until approximately a year later, in the summer of 2027. If everything goes according to plan, that work should be completed before Christmas 2027. It should be noted that these are plans and are subject to change.

Information will be posted here and on Fannborg.is as applicable.

Mannverk is the contractor in charge of the Fannborg plot.

Another contracting company, Jáverk, is responsible for the western Traðarreitur plot, where work is on a different timeline. A separate information meeting will be held regarding the western Traðarreitur plot later this year, and information regarding it will be posted here.
