Fannborg area: Groundwork has begun and preparations for blasting are underway

Construction on the Fannborg plot is progressing, and earthworks have commenced in the area.

The contractor is currently working on removing loose soil from the bedrock and relocating Kópavogur municipality's utility lines outside the planned construction footprint. It is estimated that soil removal will take approximately three to four weeks, while utility relocations will take about five to eight weeks.

Once the earthworks are complete, blasting is expected to begin, which is currently scheduled in about four weeks.

Before blasting begins, vibration monitors will be installed on nearby buildings to monitor the impact of the work. Initially, blasting will be carried out cautiously while specialists assess the properties of the bedrock and define the most suitable methods for the execution.

According to the specifications, the peak particle velocity from blasting must not exceed 15 mm/second, and compliance with these requirements will be closely monitored.

Residents and others who may be affected by the works will receive a specific notification regarding the blasting approximately one week before it begins.

Kópavogur municipality will continue to keep residents informed about the progress of the project as construction proceeds.
