Rock breaking and blasting in the Fannborg area
Due to construction work in the Fannborg area (Fannborgarreitur), rock breaking with a hydraulic breaker will be required for short periods at a time. The breaking is carried out using an excavator that is primarily used for excavation on the site. It is not always possible to foresee when rock breaking will be needed, but it can be expected from time to time over the coming weeks.
Rock breaking will take place in short intervals between 07:30 and 18:00 on weekdays. The work falls within the regulatory limits that apply to particularly noisy construction activities.
Before excavation and drilling for blasting can begin, the relocation and connection of utility lines in the construction area must be completed. Work on connecting drainage will take place this week, and power cables and fiber optic cables are expected to be connected next week. Once this is finished, the excavation of loose soil and drilling for blasting can commence.
Blasting can therefore begin in about three weeks at the earliest. It is expected to last for three to four months during this phase of construction. Further information regarding timing will be published once it is available.
