Status of construction on the Fannborg block and Traðarreit west in downtown Kópavogur

The development of a new town centre in Kópavogur takes place on two plots: the Fannborg plot and the West Tröð plot.

The Fannborg plot lies between Hamraborg, Digranesvegur, Vallartröð, and Hálsatorg. The contractor there is Mannverk.

The West Tröð plot is bounded by Digranes to the south, Neðstatröð to the north and west, and Vallartröð to the east. The contractor there is Jáverk.

The Fannborg plot

Construction on the Fannborg plot is progressing according to schedule. In the near future, the construction fence will be moved further inside the area to reduce its footprint. At the same time, parking spaces will be completed and work will continue on the sorting and disposal of concrete.

The contractor Mannverk has decided to wait with further actions until residents have received a clear presentation on the next steps. An informational meeting has already been held for the residents of Gjábakki.

The West Tröð plot

On the West Tröð plot, the contractor Jáverk has not started construction, and demolition has not begun as no authorisation for it has been granted. Containers have, however, arrived on the plot, which are part of the preparations and are related to the clearing of loose items. The next steps consist of general preparatory measures, such as removing vegetation and unlicensed cars, and clearing rubbish from gardens and the buildings to ensure safety and access.

Kópavogur Municipality's gardening department has already removed vegetation from the plots and relocated it elsewhere in accordance with the town's procedures (see news article dated 18 May 2026).

Preparations are also underway to shut off cold and hot water as well as electricity in the buildings, which is a necessary part of the process before the next phases take over. Demolition is estimated to begin in June.

Kópavogur Municipality will continue to provide clear and verified information on the status of construction and inform residents when changes occur on both plots.
